Your aftercare is taken very seriously

"I'd like to tell other women, don't just think about the surgery but also about the time during and after surgery. This is the journey – the time straight after surgery. These days and weeks can make a huge difference – I hadn't anticipated this, but they really changed my life."

What do we mean by 'your journey'?

Facial surgery is a spiritual journey into your emotional wellbeing, sense of identity and hopes for the future.

We’ve helped over two thousand patients through their own personal journeys. We know that you need holistic care provided by experienced and nurturing people at every step of the journey – from first decision to final return to daily life. You’ll need to feel safe and cared for and that is why we step in and become your complete ‘after-care family’.

We also ease your facelift journey by providing a wellbeing programme specially designed to meet your needs. This can include pre-surgical massage, post-surgical physiotherapy, hairdressing, healing skin care and light therapy. It’s all about helping you feel better and recover faster.

Importantly, we’re there for chats and companionship. Having ‘time out’ after surgery can be an unusual experience for busy people so there can be a few surprising emotional challenges along the way. This is when our experienced staff are really appreciated.

We even have a special book to help you on your journey. Personally written by Bryan Mendelson, our Post-operative Healing Notes takes you through what to expect day by day, physically, emotionally and spiritually. For many patients this book becomes a treasured, well-thumbed memento of their journey.

First steps.

The first step on your journey is to visit one of our patient advisors, Jilda or Jennifer. Both have worked with Bryan Mendelson for many years, so they are perfect to chat with and they understand how you may be feeling. They will answer your questions and make sure you have the information you need. This first step is simply one of information gathering and consideration. Having surgery is a major decision so there is absolutely no obligation or rush and you are welcome to return for more visits until you feel comfortable.

(International clients, see our page for International Clients)

Then next step is to meet Bryan Mendelson. As this is the start of what becomes a close relationship of understanding and trust, your consultation might be quite lengthy. He will ask many questions to learn more about who you are and what you want to achieve with surgery. Feel free to discuss any concerns and ask any questions.

He will also discuss the best procedures and options. If your situation is complex, or if he has suggested a different procedure to the one you were expecting, a second consultation might be beneficial. These consultations and everything else described here are included in your initial fee, should you proceed.

These first steps are an important part of a successful journey, as you develop your knowledge and build confidence in your decision.

Our care on your journey.

"Bryan is very much part of the healing. He is a spiritual person with a lot of integrity and has this wonderful team around him; it’s about spiritual healing not just physical healing. That was profound for me."

When you are ready to proceed, we will assist you to move towards surgery. This can involve a lot of unexpected organisation and our patient advisors have the experience to help you to plan and prepare. Their aim is to ensure that when your day of surgery arrives, you are calm and relaxed, ready to focus solely on yourself and your recovery. You’ll find their help invaluable.

They will also help you to choose your post-surgery accommodation. We have a range of options, whether you’re coming from overseas, interstate, or you live in Melbourne but would like to recover in privacy. This includes our very own garden apartment just down from the surgery, fondly known as ‘Tilley’s Place’.

Some patients are able (and want) to return home afterwards, with a friend or relative care for them overnight. Alternatively, we have arrangements with two carefully chosen hotels close to the surgery that are suitable for our postoperative patients. If you prefer to be nursed in a hospital environment (or we advise it) we will organise a transfer to Epworth Cliveden Private Hospital for a few days.

After your surgery, we’ll be in close contact as you have post-surgical appointments, wellbeing and healing treatments, and plenty of chats and companionship. As we’ve said, these can be emotional days; especially if you are ‘moving on’ from something in your life, like divorce or grief. But it can also be a time of unexpected psychological growth and insight, which can be a valuable but surprising part of the journey.

"I felt like I was in safe hands. The time after surgery was an emotional rollercoaster, but if I was having a bad day, I’d go in and get support from Jennifer, Jilda or Bryan. They’re beautiful, sincere people and it made a huge difference."

When you step back into normal daily life, your journey is nearly over. But we’re still there – with a review after four months and again after twelve months (all included in your initial fee).

The twelve month visit can be the perfect moment from which to look back on your journey of aesthetic facial surgery, which is now complete. But you’re welcome to visit us at any time. We’ve shared a lot together and we love it when patients come back to see us.

Where does your journey end? That’s up to you. For many of our patients, the journey of facial surgery was just the start of many other exciting journeys in their life.

Tilley's Accommodation.

Originally purchased for our interstate and international patients, Tilley’s has become popular with our local patients who love the idea of being able to ‘hide away’ somewhere private and close to our office. It has two bedrooms, so you can have a friend or relative to stay if desired.

This peaceful, fully self-contained apartment is only metres from the office, amidst quiet streets that are perfect for a gentle morning or evening stroll to assist recuperation.

Tilley’s has been a home away from home for many people who remember their time there with great affection.
